Major Chinese LCD Manufacturers to Pause Production During National Day Holiday
TMTPOST -- China’s top liquid crystal display (LCD) makers, including BOE Technology Group and TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), are set to temporarily halt production next week during the country’s National Day holiday, a move aimed at stabilizing prices, industry sources said. High-generation LCD production lines at BOE facilities in Hefei, Wuhan, and Chengdu, as well as TCL CSOT’s Shenzhen plant, will suspend operations for five to seven days between Oct. 1 and Oct. 8, according to Wang Xianming, director at market research firm Runto Technology, speaking to Yicai. Other major producers are following suit. HKC Optoelectronics Technology will pause production at its Chongqing, Chuzhou, and Changsha plants for five days. Japan-based Sharp’s Guangzhou facility is scheduled for an eight-day shutdown, Wang added. The temporary production halt mirrors similar measures taken last year, which helped stabilize LCD prices by controlling supply during a period of lower seasonal demand. Analysts say that such planned pauses are increasingly used by manufacturers to balance production, maintain profitability, and manage inventory levels in the highly competitive LCD market.
