Shanghai Matwings Technology secures nine-figure funding for AI protein platform
TMTPOST — Shanghai Matwings Technology, a biotechnology startup developing specialized machine learning infrastructure for biology, has raised several hundred million yuan in an A++ financing round on Monday to accelerate the deployment of its automated artificial intelligence protein design architecture.
The capital injection was co-led by state-backed investment platforms Shanghai Guotou Lead and SDIC Innovation, with participation from regional venture capital funds and existing shareholder Qiming Venture Partners. Proceeds will drive the engineering iteration of the startup's proprietary closed-loop agent, MatwingsVenus, alongside scaled commercial application across advanced pharmaceutical materials, the circular economy, and consumer health sectors.
Institutional capital allocations on the Chinese mainland are increasingly favoring applied AI for Science systems that compress traditional, multi-year laboratory timelines into predictive computational workflows. By leveraging specialized machine learning frameworks to bypass iterative wet-lab screening, developers are transforming structural biology platforms from academic modeling assets into self-directed industrial synthesis pipelines.
