Afari Technology and StepFun Partner to Deploy AI Agent Operating System in Electric Vehicles
TMTPOST — Intelligent driving solutions developer Afari Technology has partnered with artificial intelligence startup StepFun on Monday to integrate the newly launched Step AOS agentic operating system into smart passenger vehicles. The technical deployment covers StepFun’s newly commercialized end-side model family, Step Edge, alongside its native digital companion assistant, Amoo, establishing a direct software-to-hardware data loop between foundational large language models and automotive hardware terminals. To support the computing requirements of the specialized machine learning system, the on-board digital architecture will integrate localized sensory chips with external cloud networks to manage real-time situational processing during active transit. The technical deployment will be systematically rolled out across regional electric vehicle production lines, though specific multi-year commercial supply volume commitments and capital investments remain private. Automotive supply chains on the Chinese mainland are moving aggressively to consolidate AI capabilities as domestic original equipment manufacturers seek specialized features to break local pricing stalemates. The architectural focus of digital cockpit engineering is transitioning away from standard voice-command infotainment setups toward autonomous on-device operating systems that dynamically adapt to driver behavior and environmental prompts. Consequently, early-stage intelligent vehicle suppliers are heavily prioritizing technical integration with localized software laboratories to protect software-service profit margins and maintain competitive hardware differentiation across crowded regional consumer markets.
