LegendSpace Secures $27.6 Million to Develop AI-Driven Rocket Engines
TMTPOST — Chinese aerospace startup LegendSpace [Linjie Hangtian] announced on Thursday that it has secured 200 million yuan ($27.6 million) in an Angel funding round to accelerate the development of its artificial intelligence-driven liquid rocket propulsion systems. The significant early-stage round was co-led by Oasis Capital, Source Code Rhythm, Shanshi Capital, Tsingyuan Ventures, and Fortune Capital, with Cygnus Equity serving as the exclusive financial advisor. Registered in early 2026, the Beijing-based startup completed the transaction within six months of its founding. LegendSpace was established by 35-year-old former Peking University professor Chen Zhi, a Cambridge University alumnus who specializes in complex combustion fluid dynamics. The newly raised capital will be split among three main operations: funding static and thermal test fires for multiple liquid-propellant rocket engines, upgrading the company's proprietary "Prime" intelligent simulation and design platform, and building scale manufacturing infrastructure. By replacing costly physical prototypes with deep-learning computational models, domestic private space ventures can simulate complex fluid-flow dynamics in real time. Because liquid-propellant rocket engines operate under extreme pressures and highly volatile thermal conditions, legacy manufacturers typically spend years conducting iterative, high-risk physical testing to fine-tune combustion chambers. Moving toward computer-aided molecular and fluid modeling allows agile startups to compress design timelines and lower the cost per launch. This shift enables commercial satellite networks on the Chinese mainland to scale at a fraction of standard government aerospace budgets.
