Kai Medtech Secures $70 Million Series D From State-Backed Funds
TMTPOST — Shanghai-based neurovascular medical device developer Kai Medtech has secured nearly RMB 500 million ($69.6 million) in a Series D financing round to accelerate clinical commercialization and product research.
The investment was co-led by state-backed vehicles Shanghai Sci-Tech Capital and Minhang Gold Investment, with participation from Taiping Private Equity, Shenzhen Capital Group, Huatai Zijin Investment, and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Group alongside several returning institutional backers. Founded in 2019, Kai Medtech specializes in the design, manufacturing, and commercial distribution of interventional surgical instruments for cerebrovascular diseases, offering proprietary product lines including intracranial guidewires, microcatheters, aspiration catheters, and mechanical thrombectomy systems. The company operates full-scale research and production facilities across Shanghai and Jiangsu province while expanding international regulatory filings and distribution channels in overseas markets.
Government efforts to standardize centralized volume-based medical procurement across domestic public hospital networks have accelerated structural shifts within the surgical equipment sector, expanding opportunities for domestic specialists to displace established foreign suppliers. Municipal state-backed funds are increasingly stepping in to supply growth-stage capital for high-barrier medical hardware developers as private venture financing in healthcare grows more disciplined. With cerebrovascular disease remaining a primary cause of adult mortality across the Chinese mainland, clinical demand for cost-effective, high-precision neurointerventional devices is expected to support continued revenue expansion for integrated local manufacturers.
