Hyundai Motor Union Stages First Full Strike in a Decade
TMTPOST — Hyundai Motor’s labor union held its first full-day strike in 10 years on Friday after wage negotiations with management stalled. About 39,000 union members, including non-production staff, took part. All production lines at the company’s Ulsan, Jeonju and Asan plants halted for a combined 16 hours across the day and night shifts. The action marks the first eight-hour walkout per shift since 2016. The dispute centers on demands for higher bonuses, an extension of the retirement age, reinstatement of dismissed members and job protections amid the company’s adoption of artificial intelligence and automation. Prior partial strikes this year have already disrupted production of roughly 55,200 vehicles, with estimated lost sales exceeding 2.3 trillion won.
