Didi Starts Passenger Tests of New Robotaxi R2 in Beijing and Guangzhou
TMTPOST — Didi Autonomous Driving said Monday that its new-generation Robotaxi R2 has begun unmanned passenger-carrying test services in designated demonstration zones in Beijing and Guangzhou.
Users in those areas can now hail the vehicles through the app to experience the upgraded autonomous ride service. The R2, co-developed with GAC Aion as a purpose-built Robotaxi, uses Didi’s L4 full-stack software and hardware platform, including 33 sensors and a multi-domain computing system.
The vehicles, which meet China-Europe dual five-star safety standards and feature multiple redundancy systems, were delivered earlier this year and have undergone road testing in Guangzhou, Beijing and Shenzhen. Cabin upgrades include expanded rear space, a 17.3-inch ceiling screen and AI voice controls.
