BEIJING, December 28 (TMTPOST)—Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi unveiled its highly anticipated new flagship series Xiaomi 12 at its winter launch conference on Tuesday.

The new series comes with three models – Xiaomi 12X, Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro, starting from 3,499 yuan (US$550).

The series’ standard model Xiaomi 12 is equipped with a 6.28-inch AMOLED curved display with a resolution of 2400*1080. The display also features 12-bit color and 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.

Xiaomi 12 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, LPDDR 5 and UFS 3.1. Its processors adopt 4nm processing techniques, which allow Xiaomi 12 to have a 20% performance increase while power consumption is down 30%. The phone’s GPU has a 30% increase in rendering and a 25% up in energy efficiency.

Xiaomi 12 is powered by a 4500mAh battery and supports 67W fast charging with cable and 50W wireless fast charging. It can be charged to 100% in 39 minutes with cable fast charging, according to Xiaomi.

Xiaomi 12 series also sees major updates in its camera system. Xiaomi 12 is installed with a Sony IMX766 50MP main camera, which supports OIS4 (optical image stabilization) stabilization. Xiaomi 12 is also equipped with a 13MP wide-angle lens camera and a macro telephoto lens camera. Its front camera is a 32MP camera that supports native beautify effects.

Besides hardware upgrades for its camera system, Xiaomi has also made improvements with its camera software system. Opening the native camera app on Xiaomi 12 is now 21.2% faster, according to Xiaomi. It is also 53.7% faster when users take photos with the native app. There is a 39.9% increase in speed when taking photos under low-light conditions. It takes Xiaomi 12 only 0.37s to complete taking a picture in low light, statistics from Xiaomi show. In comparison, it would take other Android flagships around 0.45s to 0.75s to finish taking a picture in low-light settings.

Xiaomi 12 comes with four color options – black, blue, purple and green. It is weighed 180g and 69.9mm thin.
