42 Chinese Mobile Games Reap US$100 Million Overseas Revenue in 2021
In 2021, a total of 42 Chinese mobiles games made more than US$100 million each from overseas markets, according to data from mobile market research firm Sensor Tower. In 2020, the figure was 37.

BEIJING, January 24 (TMTPOST) — In 2021, 42 made-in-China mobile games achieved revenue of over US$100 million in overseas markets.

The mobile game market continued to grow strong in 2021 as economies reopened and people returned to work.

In 2021, a total of 42 Chinese mobiles games made more than US$100 million overseas each, according to data from mobile market research firm Sensor Tower. In 2020, 37 Chinese mobile games achieved similar results.

The top 30 Chinese mobile games on the Apple App Store and Google Play accumulated revenue of US$11.5 billion, a 24% year-on-year increase from the US$9.24 billion in 2020.

The revenue of Genshin Impact from Chinese game developer miHoYo reached US$230 million on the mobile platform in September 2021, one year after its launch. The game broke the monthly revenue record it set in October 2020 for a Chinese mobile game in overseas markets.

The American market contributed US$3.6 billion to the revenue of the top 30 Chinese mobile games, registering year-on-year growth of 53%. The mobile game market in the United States had replaced the Japanese market as the top destination for Chinese mobile games.

Genshin Impact was the top-grossing Chinese mobile game in overseas markets in 2020.

IGG’s six-year-old Castle Clash had maintained steady growth thanks to its excellent operation. In 2021, the game’s overseas revenue increased by 56%.

Chinese game publisher and developer 37 Interactive Entertainment’s Puzzles & Survival was a successful new game that combines match-three gameplay and strategy game elements, becoming an emerging game title in 2021.

Other Chinese mobile games that achieved revenue of US$100 million in 2021 include Bole Games’ Jackpot World, Chuang Cool Entertainment’s Be the King, Tencent’s Arena of Valor, Yotta Games’ The Grand Mafia, Yalla Group’s Yalla Ludo and Lilith’s Warpath, etc.

In 2021, mobile game players spent US$88.5 billion on the App Store and Google Play, an 11.2% increase from 2020.

The American market contributed US$25.4 billion, making it the biggest mobile game market in the world.
