BEIJING, April 12 (TMTPOST) — A white paper report on Chinese college students’ learning and development released by Chinese education giant New Oriental Group on Tuesday shows that nearly 54% of college students in China wish to pursue further studies after graduating from an undergraduate program.

The white paper report, titled 2022 Chinese College Students’ Learning and Development Report, provides a group profile of the generation Z’s life, academic path and employment.

The report shows that over 40% of college students in China of each year (from a freshman to a senior) participate in internships. 45% of college students enjoy sharing their life on social media. 28% of the surveyed were not sure about their future path.

Graduate studies have become increasingly a top choice for college students due to the competitive job market. Statistics from the white paper report show that 54% of the surveyed wished to pursue further studies after graduating from college.

The report shows that the linkage between educational background and base salary is one of the primary drivers behind the increasing interest in pursuing further studies among students. Statistics show that the higher the educational level a student has, the higher base salary a student can get. Besides college degrees, students also highly value professional certificates.

Freshmen and sophomores are generally busy with College English Test Level 4 and College English Test Level 6. College students in their junior or senior year care about professional certificates and the graduate school entrance exam the most. Seniors pay more attention to the National Civil Servant Exam.

When choosing tutoring centers, college students will primarily focus on curriculum design. In addition, college students tend to look at the brand reputation when choosing tutoring centers for preparing for the college English test. As for selecting tutoring centers for the national graduate school entrance exam, college students tend to look at the teachers’ backgrounds and others’ recommendations.
