BEIJING, April 28 (TMTPOST) — Chinese telecom and consumer electronics giant Huawei launched its new generation foldable flagship Mate Xs 2 on Thursday, starting from 9,999 yuan.

Mate Xs has an OLED display that unfolds to a 7.8-inch diagonal with a 2480 x 2200 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. When folded, the display will shrink to a 6.5-inch display with a 2480 x 1176 resolution. A 10MP front camera is located at the top right corner of the display.

Mate Xs 2 has a refined double rotor hinge mechanism which improves long-term durability and also leaves no visible crease on the display. The flagship foldable phone supports Huawei’s M-Pen 2s stylus.

The phone enjoys improved durability of the polymer-covered display thanks to a new four-layer structure, according to Huawei. The phone is weighed 255g, which is a major improvement from the Mate Xs which weighs 300g.

Mate Xs 2 has a triple camera system on the back consisting of a 50MP main camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical and 30x digital zoom and OIS (optical image stabilization).

The phone runs on Qualcomm’s high-end SoC Snapdragon 888 4G chipset with 8/12GB RAM and up to 512GB of built-in storage. The phone has a 4,880 mAh battery pack and supports 66W fast charging. Mate Xs 2 runs on Huawei’s HarmonyOS 2.

The flagship foldable phone comes in three colors: white, black and purple.

The phone starts at 9,999 yuan for the 8GB RAM+256GB storage standard version. The 12GB RAM+512GB storage version sells for 12,999 yuan. Sales of the flagship will start on May 6.

“We have made thorough preparation for supply to ensure consumers can purchase popular Huawei smartphones such as the P50 Series and Nova 9 Series,” Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s Device Business Group (the former Consumer Business Group) said. “Starting on May 6, consumers will have access to the newly launched foldable flagship Huawei Mate Xs 2.”
