BEIJING, May 11 (TMTPOST)— Chinese government urged to remove the tariffs from the United States again, as the recent response to the Biden administration’s considering new ways to curb elevated inflation, including to end trade tariffs on Chinese goods.

In order to lower the consumer prices, the White House is weighing whether to lift all the tariffs imposed under by former President Donald Trump together, the U.S. President Joe Biden said on Tuesday. "We're discussing that right now. We're looking at what would have the most positive impact," Biden answered a reporter’s question about if he would drop the tariffs on China imposed by Trump. Then Biden said he could not tell whether he would lower or erase the tariffs at the moment, what he can tell is that his government is discussing the option and has not made any decision yet. “We’re looking at what would have the most positive impact,” Biden added.

“There is no winner in a trade war or tariff war. Tariffs imposed unilaterally by the US on China are not in the interest of China, the US or the whole world.” Zhao Lijian, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affair of China, commented on Biden’s recent remarks at Wednesday’s regular press. The tariff war so far cost American companies 1.7 trillion US dollars and more than 240,000 jobs in the U.S., Zhao quoted figures from Chinese Ambassador to the US Qin Gang in a recent interview with Forbes. “I think it’s time for the US administration to reconsider and to cancel it as early as possible,” Zhao concluded.

Last month, Daleep Singh, Biden's deputy national security adviser who oversees sanctions, suggested the U.S. could lower some of tariffs on non-strategic Chinese goods like bicycles and apparel to help ease inflation. The U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen that month said that the U.S. government is willing to do whatever to lower inflation and noted that to cut tariffs was “worth of considering” as it would have some “desirable effects”. “Under the elevated inflation setting, the U.S.’s move to lift tariffs levied on China is in the interests of American businesses and consumers,” Gao Feng, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce of China, then commented about two week ago.
