BEIJING, May 19 (TMTPOST) — Short video sharing platform TikTok has been testing gaming features on its platform in Vietnam as part of its expansion into the gaming business, according to a news report of Reuters.

It is reported that TikTok is planning to promote its gaming features in the Southeast Asian market and might launch games in Q3. Reuters suggests that the platform is investing in HTML5 games and has already begun testing them. The platform is also working on a live mobile gaming feature that allows creators on TikTok to better engage their fans while on livestream.

The addition of games on TikTok’s platform “would boost advertising revenue as well as the amount of time users spend on the app,” the report from Reuters says. TikTok has more than 1 billion active monthly users. About 70% of Vietnam citizens are under the age 35 and most in the country are considered tech-savvy. TikTok will need a license to add games on its platform in Vietnam, which restricts games that depict gambling, violence and sexual content.

A representative from TikTok said that the company has already reached a partnership with social game developer Zynga and it is testing to integrate Zynga’s HTML5 games into TikTok. The two companies had teamed up to launch the HTML5 game Disco Loco 3D exclusively on TikTok. However, the representative refused to make further comments on TikTok’s gaming plans in Vietnam.

“We’re always looking at ways to enrich our platform and regularly test new features and integrations that bring value to our community,” the representative said in an emailed statement to Reuters.

ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
