BEIJING, May 26 (TMTPOST) — The Chinese market currently has a PS5 inventory of 670,000 units, making China the fifth-biggest market for PS5, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE)’s President Jimmy Ryan said at an investor conference on Thursday.

PS5 achieved this level of market performance in China when there had been a lack of supply. Each active PS5 in the Chinese market on average generates a transaction volume of US$223.34. There are around 295,000 PS5 owners that have subscribed to the PSN service, a figure far exceeding that of PS4.

Ryan also stated at the investor conference that SIE’s core business has maintained strong growth. The company’s core business is expected to achieve record-high results as it is driven by a series of mergers and acquisitions, business expansion and collective efforts from different departments of SIE, Ryan said.

SIE’s Game and Network Service (G&NS) business brought in net sales of 2.74 trillion yen, accounting for 27.6% of Sony’s total revenues in 2021. The segment is comprised of hardware sales (including the company's flagship console, the Sony PlayStation), digital and physical game software, add-on content, and network services. In 2025, annual PlayStation gaming software revenues are projected to reach 15.5 billion U.S. dollars.

Driven by PS4 and PS5, SIE’s hardware business has maintained consistent growth. The company has sold 11.5 million PS5. Sony sold more PS5 in the first year after its launch than PS4. Sony considered users’ demand for PS5 as unprecedented.

Content remains the be PlayStation’s main competitiveness. According to SIE, PlayStation has a strong game portfolio, including exclusive titles such as Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Gran Turismo 7, as well as third-party games like Grand Theft Auto V, Genshin Impact, NBA2K and FIFA. SIE said that PlayStation would soon have highly-anticipated titles such as God of War Ragnarök.
