Over 200 Positive Cases Confirmed in Chengdu
With the outbreak that occurred last Thursday, 200 new cases were reported on Monday, causing the nucleic acid testing system once to be crashed.

BEIJING, August 30  (TMTPOST) — From August last Thursday to Monday this week, more than 450 positive cases were reported in Chengdu, with the most serious situation in the main city's Jinjiang district. At 0:00 on Tuesday, Chengdu announced to strengthen the pandemic control in the city, and at 3:00 announced to extend the control time in some areas of Jinjiang.

According to the control requirements, Chengdu will carry out nucleic acid testing for the whole city. Residents must have a negative nucleic acid test certificate within 48 hours to enter public places such as factories, institutions, and enterprises, and have a negative nucleic acid test certificate within 24 hours to enter some key areas. All types of confined entertainment venues as well as public cultural and sports activities suspended their opening and operation. The 25th Chengdu International Automobile Exhibition, originally scheduled for August 26 - September 4, had been announced to be closed Tuesday.

According to the Health Commission of Sichuan Province, from 0:00-24:00 on Monday, there were 133 confirmed cases and 70 new asymptomatic infections in Chengdu. For the first time since the cases were reported last Thursday, the number of new cases exceeded 200 in a single day.

Genetic sequencing results showed that the outbreak strain is Omicron BA.2.76 variant, but the source of the outbreak has not yet been announced. Yang Xiaoguang, deputy secretary general of the Chengdu municipal government and director of the city's Health Commission, introduced on last Saturday that there was a gathering outbreak in Jinjiang District last Thursday and found that the reported cases were all related to a gym swimming pool.

On Monday, Chengdu's nucleic acid testing system suddenly crashed. A number of Chengdu citizens reported that the nucleic acid testing system could not scan the code to upload the information of the testers. Some people also received a notice from the district to suspend the nucleic acid test.
