Huawei-Backed AITO Rolls Out First Full Electric Model M5
M5 is expected to boost AITO sales and maintain its robust growth despite challenges including economic slowdown.

BEIJING, September 6  (TMTPOST)— AITO, a brand jointly developed by Huawei and Chongqing Sokon's brand Seres, rolled out its first full electric model as well as the electric SUV M5.

At Monday’s event in autumn, Huawei introduced M5, the first one in AITO family to be equipped with HarmonyOS 3.0, the latest version of an Android operating system launched by Huawei. The system allows M5 drivers to share their mobile ecosystem with vehicle. The model is backed an in-house adaptive dynamic torque system HUAWEI DATS, which is deemed as a key advantage against competitors for M5 by Yu Chengdong, or Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group. The system enables M5 to detect and react to road hazards in milliseconds, make driving on bumpy roads more smoothly, and ensure stable and safe driving at turns, according to Yu. “At present, only Tesla and Huawei have mastered the technology in the world,” Yu noted, however, M5 deliver better driving experience than Tesla’s Model Y.

M5 now has two versions available and starts from RMB288,600 (US$41,500) and RMB319,800 (US$46,000)respectively. HUAWEI DATS can also help M5 reduce power consumption. Under the power save mode, the M5 single-motor rear-drive version can run 620 km of China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) range on a single charge, while a single charge allows the dual-motor four-wheel-drive version to have a 552 km CLTC range.

With a dynamic shark-nose angle on its front face, AITO M5 has eagle wings through-type taillights and streamer-oriented lion headlights. The external design with low wind resistance features helps M5 bring its drag coefficient down to 0.266 Cd., compared with its competitor Mercedes-Benz EQC and BMW iX3’s drag coefficient 0.29 Cd.

M5 is expected to boost AITO sales and maintain its robust growth despite challenges including economic slowdown in China. Seres released in early September that it sold 14,600 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in August with a 310.77% year-over-year (YoY) increase, and 10,045 vehicles out of them were AITO-branded, the first time topping 10,000 units. AITO that month recorded a strong 1277.91% YoY increase.
