China's New Energy Vehicle Ownership Accounts for Half of the World
Over the past ten years, China has been deeply promoting structural reform on the supply side to promote the vigorous development of new industries, new business models, and new development models.

BEIJING, September 23 (TMTPOST) – In the past ten years, China's industrial structure has been optimized and upgraded with obvious results. Liu Dechun, director of the Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection of the National Development and Reform Commission, released related data at the press conference on Thursday.

In 2021, the proportion of the high-tech manufacturing industry in the added value of industry above the scale reached 15.1%, an increase of 5.7 percentage points over 2012. In the first eight months of 2022, the production and sales of new energy vehicles reached 3.97 million and 3.86 million respectively, and the ownership reached 10.99 million, accounting for about half of the world.

In addition, the conference mentioned that, over the past ten years, China has been deeply promoting structural reform on the supply side, eliminating backward production capacity, resolving excess capacity, withdrawing more than 150 million tons of excess steel production capacity, and banning 140 million tons of ground steel in order to vigorously develop strategic new industries and promote the vigorous development of new industries, new business models and new development models.

In 2021, the proportion of clean energy consumption in China reached 25.5%, 11 percentage points higher than in 2012. The proportion of coal consumption dropped to 56%, 12.5 percentage points lower than in 2012. The scale of installed wind power generation increased about 12 times that in 2012, and the new energy generation exceeded 1 trillion kilowatt hours for the first time. At present, China's renewable energy installed capacity has exceeded 110 million kilowatts, with hydropower, wind power, solar power, and biomass power generation installed capacity ranking first in the world.

The country is deeply promoting energy restructuring to strengthen the clean and efficient use of coal, in order to actively develop non-fossil energy, and continuously deepen the reform of the power system. Compared with 2012, in 2021, China's energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and water consumption per unit of GDP decreased by 26.4%, 34.4%, and 45% respectively. The output rate of major resources increased by 58%.
