Geely Executive Denies Rumor: Meizu Has No Intention to Be Automaker
Meizu was said to provide job openings ranging from technical positions to marketing ones in auto industry. The insider confirmed the company is hiring talents in the industry and building the talent pool.

The rumor that Meizu’s intention to make vehicles is misunderstanding, because Meizu will just offer services to automakers rather than producing cars by itself, clarified Yang Xueliang, the Senior Vice President of Geely Holding Group in charge of public relations and communications, through a post at Chinese Twitter-like social media platform Sina Weibo.

Earlier this week, Meizu was said to hire workers in auto industry and provide job openings ranging from technical positions such as the engineer for smart cockpit tests, the product manager   for in-vehicle system, the mechanical engineer, the chassis electric control engineer, to marketing positions including sales for new energy vehicles and personnel for auto media relations. Some of jobs are required candidates to have experiences related to produce complete vehicles.

The recruitment triggered more speculation that Meizu may foray into automaking, given the company’s multiple patent applications in auto industry this year. Meizu is actually hiring talents in the industry and building the talent pool, the insider told Chinese media outlet The Paper. However, the Zhuhai-based company didn’t give any official response to possibility about automaking yet.

Hubei Xingji Shidai Technology Co., one of Geely’s ventures, settled a strategic investment agreement to take a 79.09% stake in July. Smart vehicles and smartphones will have common users for their integrated relationships across multiple devices and platforms that deliver an immersive experience in a full range of scenarios, Geely’s founder Li Shufu commented at the signing ceremony of the investment with Meizu. Eventually, either the mobile makers’ attempt to make vehicles or the auto makers’ entry into smartphones is poised to create better experiences for users, so they will reach the same goal through different paths, Li added.
