BYD sold 262,200 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in July, suggesting a 61.3% year-over-year (YoY) increase. China’s leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer for the first time sold more than 260,000 units in a month, a new record for the third consecutive month. The company sold a total of 1.5178 million NEVs in the first seven months of the year, accounting for 84% of annual sales in 2022.

Aion, a brand owned by the state-owned manufacturer Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC), sold 45,025 vehicles in July, increasing 80% YoY. The sales edged up slightly from the monthly record set in June, in which saw an 86.7% YoY increase. Aion, as the leader among emerging Chinese EV startups, has shattered its sales record for the fifth consecutive month since it first sold more than 40,000 units in March. Its sales from January to July totaled 254,361 units, representing a 103% YoY increase. The brand is expected to increase the momentum as Hyper GT, its second model under the luxury EV brand Hyper, went on sales on July 3.

Li Auto set another its monthly record. The automaker shipped 34,134 vehicles in July with an astonishing yearly growth of 227.5%. Its monthly delivery topped 30,000 units again after it first exceeded the 30,000-unit monthly delivery mark in June. “We successfully delivered our 400,000th vehicle in July, becoming the first emerging NEV manufacturer in China to achieve this milestone,” Li Auto chairman and CEO Li Xiang commented. Li noted launches this year achieved solid delivery. Li Auto delivered over 50,000 Li L7s, a five-seat flagship family SUV, within five months of delivery commencement. Li added deliveries of two six-seat SUVs, Li L9 and Li L8, increased to around 20,000 in July, up from about 12,000 in March.

Nio Inc announced a record high monthly delivery on Tuesday. The EV maker said it delivered 20,462 vehicles in July, surging 103.6% from a year ago. That volume suggested a month-over-month (MoM) increase of 91.1%. The company began to show signs of recovery in June. Its delivery that month declined 17% year-over-year (YoY) to 10,707 units, but jumped 74% MoM, first topping 10,000 units in the past three months.

The monthly delivery was fueled by new models. Nio said deliveries of the All-New ES6, a smart electric all-round SUV, have been growing solidly since its debut in late May 2023. Nio delivered more than 10,000 All-New ES6s in July, making the model the first one under Nio to record a monthly delivery topping 10,000 units. The All-New ES6 caters to wide-ranging journeys of users for their family, business and leisure needs. Other models also have potential to drive momentum. Nio launched a smart electric tourer ET5 Touring on June 15 and started delivery the next day, and it commenced delivery ramp-up of the All-New ES8, a smart electric flagship SUV on June 28.

Xpeng Inc roughly recorded flat YoY monthly delivery in July, suggesting a recovery from previous month that posted a YoY 43% decrease. The EV maker shipped 11,008 EVs in July, topping 10,000 units the first time this year. Its delivery rose 28% MoM in July, a positive MoM growth for the sixth straight month, compared with growth of 17% the prior month. Xpeng is set to gain more momentum from its blockbuster model G6. The Ultra Smart Coupe SUV commenced mass deliveries across 110 cities nationwide in July after its market launch in late June. G6 deliveries reached more than 3,900 units since the delivery started in July 15, accounting for one third of the total monthly delivery.

Xpeng signed a long-term strategic partnership with Volkswagen on July 26. Providing its G9 platform and connectivity and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) software, Xpeng will work with Volkswagen to develop two B-class battery electric vehicle models under the Volkswagen brand in China.

Geely’s premium EV brand Zeekr said it delivered 12,039 units in July, refreshing its monthly record with a 140% YoY increase and a 13.4% MoM growth. Voyah, an EV division of state-owned automaker Dongfeng Motor Corporation, recorded a monthly shipment of 3,412 units, rising 90% YoY. The company has sold more than 3,000 vehicles for the fifth straight month. It aims to sell over 5,000 units in September and plans to launch an initial public offering (IPO) right after its monthly sales topping 10,000 units.
